Šuma Čovjek takes great pleasure in breaking down the clichés of classic Balkan pop.
The Swiss with a migrant background sing in French, Croatian and Arabic. The various languages are harmoniously linked together in a playful and skilful way - you still get the feeling of understanding them all. This is certainly not least due to the lovingly arranged songs: melancholic ballads, rhythmic pop-rock pieces and rap tracks peppered with furious brass parts - a unique mix of chanson, brass & Balkan pop. All influences come together and together form Šuma Čovjek.
This is the lived & tangible multicultural reality of our time. Hardly anyone can understand everything, but what Šuma Čovjek conjures up live moves people emotionally on so many levels and last but not least: makes them dance...!
The sound of Šuma Čovjek remains unmistakable on the new record “Fata Morgana” with her lovingly staged songs, which range from melancholic ballads to rhythmic Balkan pop. In terms of language, you can once again look forward to acrobatic linguistic leaps. The album was created at a time of great uncertainty. Where the journey with these songs would go, when concerts or a tour would be possible, was uncertain: “Through this fog of uncertainty, we have drawn a mirage of new departures in the distance. A mirage as a goal that gave hope, perspective, and motivation to follow the path; always with the knowledge that the path is the goal and that we would walk it together.” ...as the title song Fata Morgana says: “On a parfois besoin au bout de la route d’une Fata Morgana”.
Šuma Čovjek released their first album, “No Man’s Land”, in 2018. The accompanying single „Bouge ton cœur“ was one of the most played songs on SRF3 Switzerland in 2018. The highlights of their concert tours so far have been performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Open Air St. Gallen, Zermatt Unplugged, Moon&Stars Locarno, Rock Oz’Arene, Heitere Openair, Winterthurer Musikfestwochen and many more.
