Šuma Čovjek takes great pleasure in breaking down the clichés of classic Balkan pop pop.- the band is the result of a transcultural Swiss-Bosnian-Algerian collaboration. With heartfelt lyrics in varied arrangements and brass beats, their live concerts are transformed into fantastic moments, with interaction with the audience being the heart of every show.
This is the lived & tangible multicultural reality of our time. Hardly anyone can understand everything, but what Šuma Čovjek conjures up live moves people emotionally on so many levels and last but not least: makes them dance...!
The band released their third studio album “Ringišpil” in October 2024.
“Ringišpil” means “carousel” in Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian and is about the interaction that holds us together. A constant rotation forward, everything is in motion, in constant transformation and therefore transience and rebirth. The commonality only survives through interaction: on stage, between band and audience, and in our society. The title song is reminiscent of the happy, over-the-top and yet dreamy music from well-known Balkan films. The Serbo-Croatian refrain is supported by an anthemic melody line with strings and brass. Added to this are the energetic French chants, accompanied by pounding polka beats.
The new album's total of 10 songs are an eccentric mix of melancholic ballads, rhythmic Balkan pop-rock pieces, oriental beats and furious brass sounds. Lyrically, the band takes up social issues in the new album, but also deals with personal experiences and life questions. With acrobatic leaps between French, Croatian and Arabic, stories are told in the native languages of the two lead singers Ivica Petrušić and Hafid Derbal. The songs function as duets or dialogues between the two singers, which are developed in musical and lyrical dialogue with pianist and producer Manuel Wülser.
Review: Šuma Čovjek released their first album “No Mans Land” in 2018. The accompanying single “Bouge ton coeur” was one of the most played songs on SRF3 that same year. The second studio album “Fata Morgana” followed in 2022. Previous highlights of her concert tours have been performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Open Air St. Gallen, Zermatt Unplugged, Rock oz’Arènes, Heitere Open Air and many more.
