Systema Solar, or also: 15 years of “electropical madness” on tour in Europe!
Let us once again be impressed by Systema Solar's grandiose and unique mix of styles - at the interface between electronic music and the traditional timbres of the Colombian Caribbean coast.
Let's enter the Berbenautika universe, in which traditional Colombian rhythms and sounds (Pikós, Verbenas ...) merge with fresh electronic sounds (hip-hop, house, techno ...) - SYSTEMA SOLAR has been walking the tightrope in a playful, serious way for years , to get to the heart of socio-politically ambitious texts in danceable, hedonistic anthems.
With their new album “Futuro Primitivo”, which is scheduled for spring 2025, the Colombian collective is preparing us, as usual, an ultra-festive, extravagantly colorful LIVE set! Everything accompanied by her trademark: “handmade” videos in the style of her 'electropical universe'.
Colombia's coastal sound catapults into the future! With their heavily Afro-accentuated communities, the coastal areas on the Atlantic and Pacific hold a great treasure of sounds and rhythms. The places are often disconnected from the rest of the country and are even considered backwards - which can hardly be said about the music there:
SYSTEMA SOLAR are the protagonists of a Caribbean modernity, an audiovisual collective and they see themselves as "Afronauts" who send Colombia's music on a spacey journey.
In November 2006, various Colombian musicians came together as part of the MED (Bienal of Contemporary Art of Medellin) as a kind of unique experiment. The experiment was a success, musicians and audience alike were totally hooked on the resulting sound, SYSTEMA SOLAR was born!
The audiovisual collective sees itself in the tradition of the Pikós (the Colombian version of the Jamaican sound system), which has been making the entire Caribbean coast, even the most remote villages, dance for decades with very elaborately designed floats and systems. Musically, they reinvent cumbia, fadango, champeta, bullerengue and many other traditional styles of their homeland, and remix various rhythms and global urban cultures such as hip hop, house, breakbeats and scratching. SYSTEMA SOLAR emerged in the subculture and is still closely interwoven with many social and ecological movements in Colombia. They have always worked as a collective and the visual component has been an important part from the beginning, in graphics, artwork, visuals and videos.
Responsible for the clever mixture are mastermind Pellegrino, who also stood at the desk for Daft Punk during his years in France, and technocumbia specialist Daniboom. Handmade percussion work is woven in by Andrés Gutiérrez, while DJ Corpas contributes scratch skills. With Walter "Indigo" Hernandez, the collective has a singer who has found his language between Afro-roots and hip-hop, and is supported by the unique flow of MC John Primera. And the internationally known video artist Pata de Perro is responsible for the visual effects at Systema.
After SYSTEMA SOLAR first conquered Latin America with their debut album in 2011, they have now enjoyed great success all over Europe and are bringing the spirit of the Pikós to the big festival stages in a reloaded form.
Concert history in Europe since 2010. including TransMusicales de Rennes (FR), Paleo (CH), Sziget (HU), Glastonbury (UK), La Mar de Musicas (SP), Roskilde (DK), Summerjam (GER), Fusion (GER), Couleur Café (BE), Vieilles Charrues, Eurockéennes (FR) etc...
