Bia Ferreira is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and activist hailing from Minas Gerais, Brazil.
"MMP - Música de Mulher Preta" (Music by Black Women) is what the singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer calls her music. The content of her lyrics clearly positions itself against racism, homophobia and other discrimination and is a very political plea for feminism and love.
As a teenager, Bia Ferreira traveled all over Brazil with her guitar, playing her music for anyone who would listen. This is how she spread her political messages and exuded the love that makes up all her songs.
Through the Sofar Sound sessions, she reached more than 13 million views on YouTube with her song "Cota Não É Esmola" and since 2017 she has been touring solo or with a band throughout Brazil and Europe. Singing in Portuguese, she made her first live recordings "Bia Ferreira no Estúdio Showlivre (Ao Vivo)" in 2018, recorded her first studio album "Igreja Lesbiteriana, Um Chamado" in 2019 and followed it with the first part of her double album "Faminta" in 2022. An album full of love songs based on Brazilian rhythms and Afrobeat, which focuses on the revolutionary love of black LGBTIQ+ people. The second part of the double album is expected in the spring of 2023 and remains political in content. Musically, her audience will be invited on a journey into the genres of reggae, ragga and rap.
In October 2022, she thrilled the large WOMEX audience with one of the best shows of the fair.

The anti-racist activist and fierce defendant of the LGBTIQ+ community worldwide, BIA FERREIRA conquered Brazil with the song "cota nao é esmola" (racial quotas are not charity), an anti-racist resistance anthem about the importance of the quota system for the access of the black population to the university. In addition to the 13 million views on YouTube and several million Spotify plays, the song became mandatory reading for the University of Brasília entrance exam.
BIA FERREIRA defines her music as MMP: Música de Mulher Preta (Black Woman Music). Mixing gospel, rap and reggae the concert from the album "Igreja Lesbiteriana, O chamado" (Lesbiterian Church, The call) was released in 2019 aiming to use information into creating an anti-racist revolution with a raise of the LGBTIQ+ protagonism. Accompanied by mostly female and/or black musicians, BIA FERREIRA creates music that transcends the body and touches the spirit.
After releasing the single “Dois Dedim” in 2022, BIA FERREIRA debuts Part 1 “MPSFN” of her upcoming new double album “Faminta” (release ~02/2023) filled with love songs, which stroll through Brazilian and Afro-diasporic rhythms to talk about the revolutionary love of black lgbtiq+ women.
In this first part, which has eight original tracks, the album arrives with an aesthetic of love songs, playing with genres such as afrobeat, blues, samba and Bahian padogão to serve as a trail for the affections of these black bodies. “This part of the record is based on Brazilian rhythms mixed with Afro diasporic rhythms building this connection of how black music talks about love.”
Her voice has already echoed in many countries around the world such as Germany, Portugal, Spain, France and Mexico with great praise also on the national scene.
BIA's art manifest already made into some great stages like Pulse redbull Music (Sao Paulo), Favela Sounds (Brasilia), Oi STU Open (Rio de Janeiro) and Festival Morrostock (Rio Grande do Sul).
In October 2022 she played at prestigious word-music trait fair WOMEX in Lisbon and now she prepares a European summer tour for 2023.
